Errázuriz obtains outstanding scores at Descorchados 2016

The 18th edition of the Descorchados wine guide by the Chilean wine critic Patricio Tapia, recently announced its results highlighting Viña Errázuriz with exceptional recognition.

Las Pizarras Chardonnay 2014: Best White, Best Chardonnay and Brand Revelation.
The 2014 Las Pizarras Chardonnay was named the Best White and Best Chardonnay, with 97 points, the highest score received by Errázuriz in this influential guide to Chilean wine. Las Pizarras, a high-end Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (94 points) made from selected lots of Aconcagua Costa grapes, was also distinguished as the Revelation Brand for 2016.

Francisco Baettig, Errázuriz Chief Winemaker commented about the winery latest project: “Las Pizarras Chardonnay from Aconcagua Costa was created with the intention of producing a great wine, with personality, typicity and the identity of its

origin. Instead of creating just another name, or a different wine label, we wanted to enhance the terroir of Aconcagua Costa, which has an adequate climate and soil to produce extraordinary wines.

Having 230 hectares planted, approximately half the surface of Beaune (on Burgundy) I felt we should approach the wine by the definition of its origin. Using Burgundy’s example, we attempted to outline the equivalences of a “village”, a “premier cru” and a “grand cru”.

I wanted to create a unique Chardonnay, one that would be lineal, dry, racy, sharp, yet at the same time deep, with good structure and aging potential. Its expression on the nose is also important: without the typical tropical fruit notes, but rather floral, with dry fruits and honey. Las Pizarras Chardonnay has a typicity and nose that are unique.”
