Francisco Baettig among the 5 trendsetting winemakers of South America.

Decanter, the prestigious English magazine, through the Chilean journalist specialized in wines Patricio Tapia, highlights five winemakers who are questioning styles and challenging stereotypes in their respective countries, among which is Francisco Baettig Viña Errázuriz’s Technical Director.

Published on September 1st, the journalist praised Baettig as it has had a profound influence on the recent development of the Chilean wine style, highlighting Las Pizarras Chardonnay 2018 from Aconcagua Costa, in particular.

‘This has been an evolution for Chile’s winemakers,’ explains Baettig. ‘When they took over wineries in the early 1990s, they didn’t have the experience to set their own terms at the beginning of the Chilean wine boom. Now they do have it, and I think that today – especially in Chile’s high-end wines – you can taste more honesty, more sense of place, more freshness and less reverence for the market.’

It is noteworthy that in the latest report from Chile, Decanter highlighted Las Pizarras Chardonnay 2018 with 96 points.
