Mercado Andino & Mercado Chileno: Latin flair in London

The Old Spitalfields Market in the city of London, a beautiful covered market space that has been a hub of trading activity for hundreds of years, was the venue chosen for Mercado Andino, Europe’s largest trade event for Chile and Argentina. This tasting took place during 9th –10th September 2015, followed by Mercado Chileno, an extended tasting for consumers that focused on Chilean wineries.
Viña Errázuriz chief winemaker Francisco Baettig showcased the Errázuriz range at these events along with the latest projects for the UK and European press, trade buyers, wine lovers and consumers.
During the event a special table called “Andean Accolades” featured Chile’s and Argentina’s 2015 Trophy and Gold Medal Winners from the most relevant international competitions. Errázuriz shined with its 2013 Aconcagua Costa Pinot Noir. This wine scooped the 2015 Decanter World Wine Awards trophy for ‘Best Chilean Pinot over £15’ as well as winning a Regional Trophy and a Gold Medal.
The journalists Oz Clark, Olly Smith and Tim Atkin, known as The Three Wine Men, were present throughout Mercado Andino, hosting speed-tasting sessions and meeting guests. Olly Smith commented that the fair “…captures the vibrancy, the diversity, and the natural spirit of Chile, all of which say to me—there is nothing that Chile cannot do!… What’s wonderful about this event is that it is the food, the people, the place, the music coming to life and bringing Chile right to the heart of London.”
