NEW REVIEWS BY TIM ATKIN MW FOR VIÑA ERRÁZURIZ DON MAXIMIANO AND MAX WINES

British wine critic Tim Atkin MW published his latest Annual Chile Report by the end of March, after 20 days of an in-depth trip to most Chilean wine regions and over a thousand of wines tasted by the end of 2021. During this trip, specifically on December 4th 2021, Viña Errázuriz was one of the first wineries he exclusively visited, as part of the “First Growth” select group of wineries who were eligible for an on-site visit.

In the sixth publication entirely dedicated to Chile, Viña Errázuriz was highlighted with the recognition given to Don Maximiano Founder’s Reserve 2019 as one of the Top Red Wines of the Year, located in the fifth position of the Best Bordeaux Blends of the year with 96 points: “Yields were down in 2019, which may well have benefited quality. Including 15% Malbec for the second year in a row, this is Cabernet Sauvignon based with the remaining 13% made up of Carmenere and a splash of Petit Verdot. Herbal, pure and beautifully judged, with fine 75% new wood, blackcurrant and red cherry fruit, filigree tannins and lots of racy acidity.”

Also in the report, MAX wines received wide praise and were reviewed as follows:

MAX Carmenere 2019, 94 points: “This impressive Carmenere is something of a below-the-radar red at Errázuriz but shows the same balance and poise as the rest of the range. Fresh and refined, with coffee bean aromas, cassis and red plum flavours, perfumed 25% new wood and detailed tannins.”

MAX Cabernet Sauvignon 2020, 92 points: “Harvested early to mitigate the effects of the hot growing season, this is a deeply coloured, youthful Cabernet with lots of structure and intensity. Adroitly wooded in 25% new French oak, it’s stony and pure, with layered dark cherry and blackcurrant fruit and supporting acidity.”
