Las Pizarra Chardonnay 2014 named the Best White and Best Chardonnay by the 2016 Descorchados wine guide

The latest project from Viña Errázuriz, a top-end Chardonnay and Pinot Noir made from selected lots of Aconcagua Costa grapes and due for release in 2016 under the Las Pizarras label, has already earned three outstanding accolades.

The 18th edition of the Descorchados wine guide by the Chilean wine critic Patricio Tapia*, named the 2014 Las Pizarras Chardonnay its Best White and Best Chardonnay, as well as awarding it 97 points, the highest score received by Viña Errázuriz in this influential guide to Chilean wine.
Las Pizarras was also distinguished as the Revelation Brand for 2016. Errázuriz’s new top range of wines was named after the dominant soil in the vineyard, a type of metamorphic rock called pizarra, or slate in English. To identify these soils the geologist Françoise Vannier-Petit is working on a detailed map of the Aconcagua Costa estate’s soils. “By mapping the vineyards we have been able to identify areas that will give us different styles,”
explained Errázuriz chief winemaker Francisco Baettig. “The vineyards in the upper part of the estate produce a drier, more mineral character, whereas at the lower end you get a richer, bigger, more fruit-driven style.”
For the 2014 vintage of Las Pizarras, there are just 280 cases of Chardonnay and 300 of Pinot Noir available at a price of US$75 and US$120 respectively.

The scores of all the wines tasted in the 2016 Descorchados wine guide will be announced in the coming days.
